Basket Weaving and Marshmallow Structures

Most days Keira likes to make up her crafts but this one we found on the Disney kid crafts site, there's a template for 2 halves of the heart. Once cut out they weave the two together and open to make a basket.

Keira figured it out quickly and added ribbon to hers, Leilani got frustrated and gave up.

Not sure where the girls came up with the idea but they asked me to get toothpicks at the store.

They used mini marshmallows to make houses and hotels while snacking. I think they just wanted to eat marshmallows. :-)

Crafts for a Snowy Day

Mason Jar Candle Holders

The girls took a couple of small mason jars and taped one side with masking tape then cut out a design. With the tape still on they spray painted the jar very quickly out in the snow. Once they were dry they removed the tape added a candle. Keira added a ribbon to hers.

Suncatcher

The girls found some plastic beads we normally use to make jewelry with, we put them in a pie pan then baked at 400 degrees for about 20 minutes. It doesn't smell very good but once it cools the plastic disc pops out then we drilled a hole and added ribbon to hang in front of the window.

Duct Tape

The girls discovered duct tape at day camp this past summer.

We have several rolls with all sorts of colors and patterns.

The other night they pulled out a couple rolls to make flowers on the end of their pencils.

It's surprising how many fun and pretty varieties of duct tape there are, at first we were looking at home improvement stores but now we're finding it everywhere.

This is Keira's water bottle.

And Keira's wallet, she has more patience than Leilani. :)

This was Keira's first project, she saw someone make it at day camp then came home asking for duct tape.

Since then she continues to come up with her own creations.

Dissolve 1 tsp of Borax in 1/2 cup hot water.

Combine the Borax water with the glue mixture

Now we can play with flubber.

Noodle

Just another Saturday afternoon with Keira's creative mind.

We have noodle pool floats in the garage that haven't been used in years, Keira saw something on a kid craft website and asked me to cut up a noodle into 2 strips.

First they used them as a race track for small rubber balls. We will have to try marbles because they fit better in the grooves.

Next they made guns out of their noodles to kill dinosaurs on Jurassic Park.

Tie Dye

The girls gathered up white tank tops then wrapped with rubber bands.

We got a tie dye kit that had 3 colors, we're first-timers so we needed instructions.

Then waited overnight before rinsing.

And washing.

Voila!

They liked it so much we went back to the store for white skirts the next day.

So now they have tie dyed outfits.

Seashell Souvenir

Started with a small sheet of wood with glue painted on and dusted with sand.

Painted the blue ocean.

Then glued on the shells they found on the beach in Florida.

Decorating Easter Eggs

Painting the Easter eggs with sponge rollers.

Or simply using their fingertips.

It's a sticky mess, for some more than others.

They turned out so pretty the girls wanted to keep them, however, they were eventually turned into deviled eggs.

Wood Working

Another snowy day and Keira wants to hammer nails into something for her latest creation.
Leilani prefers to keep it simple with just wood & paint.

First, Keira drew out her clover on a thin piece of wood then had it cut out with a saw.

She nailed it to another board without smashing any fingers, which is impressive for a first-timer.

Painted the background blue and the clover green with a dash of glitter.

She's all ready for her new favorite holiday, St. Patrick's Day!!!

Leilani sanded down a piece of scrap wood.

She painted the background then dried it with a blow dryer before penciling & painting her letters.

She's still deciding where to hang it and claim her place!

Mike Wazowski

Keira came up with the idea, picked out the fabrics and designed him but Grandma Honey had to do the sewing then Keira stuffed him. He turned out really cute!

Snowday Fun with Science

It was a snowday so the girls chose to have a little science experiment.

A little soap & baking soda then just add vinegar.

Voila! suds all over the table!
